Managing Your Direct Messages (DMs) in Sisu

Written by Kayla Latta

You can send direct messages (DMs) to individual users, groups, or your entire team. DMs are only visible to the intended recipients. Sisu provides several tools to help you stay on top of your messages, including the Notifications panel, Message Center, and @mentions. Together, these features make it easier to communicate and keep work moving efficiently across your team.

Topics in this article:

Sending a DM from the Notifications Panel

  1. Click the bell icon in the top-right corner. This opens the Notifications panel. The Direct Messages tab is selected by default.

  2. Choose one of the following options:

    • Send a new DM: Click the envelope icon to start a new thread.

    • Reply to a DM: Click "Reply" in an existing thread.

  3. In the text field, enter your message and format it how you'd like. If you want to notify someone, type @ followed by their name. A list of matching users will appear - select the correct person from the list to create a valid @mention (it will be highlighted once selected).

⚠️ Important: You must select the user from the dropdown list. Simply typing a name will not trigger a notification.

  4. Click Send.

⚠️ Important: You must select the user from the dropdown list. Simply typing a name will not trigger a notification.

Frequently Asked Questions

→ Where can I see and manage all my DMs?

The Message Center and/or the Notifications panel.

→ What's the difference between messages and comments in Sisu?

  • Direct Message: Direct messages are only visible to the recipient(s) of the message. Direct messages are not visible to clients.

  • Comment: Comments are tied to transactions, tasks, and documents. This means that those who are involved with those transactions, tasks, and documents will be able to see your comments and reply to them. Comments can be client facing.

→ When I @mention someone, how will they be notified?

When you @mention a user in a direct message, they receive both an email notification and an in-app notification in Sisu.

The @mention increases the notification count next to the bell icon in the top-right corner. When the recipient opens the Notifications panel, they'll see the message and can click into the conversation to respond.

→ What actions can you take from the Notifications panel?

You can open the Notifications panel by clicking the bell icon in the top-right corner of Sisu. Here are some of the actions you can take right from the Direct Messages tab of the Notifications panel.

  • Reply to a DM

  • Mark the thread as read/unread; or archive the thread

→ How do DMs work in Sisu?

The only way to notify someone of a DM is to @mention them. You will also be notified if someone you have @mentioned responds to you. An @mention prompts an email to be sent out and it causes the counter next to the bell icon to increase by one.
